Veterinary Obstetrics is a fascinating, clinical, practical and decision-oriented subject and involves medical and surgical care of female animals during breeding, gestation, parturition (labor), and the puerperium (postpartum period), as well as care of the newborn offspring.

By the end of this course, the students will be able to understand but not limited to the following topics.

  • Manage common obstetrical conditions like Dystocia, RFM, COD, Pseudopregnancy etc in domestic animals.
  • Able to recognize and treat common reproductive disorders affecting fertility like anoestrus, repeat breeding and other reproductive disorders like endometritis, pyometra, metritis etc affecting reproduction.
  • Diagnose and manage pregnancy using clinical and diagnostic techniques- most significantly the use of Ultrasonography in the diagnosis of early pregnancy and pregnancy-related disorders.
  • Recognize normal and abnormal parturition and diagnose different forms of dystocia.
  • Understand and perform appropriate obstetrical procedures while prioritizing the welfare of the dam and fetus.
  • Manage postpartum reproductive problems and improve future fertility.
  • Provide appropriate care to the dam and newborn.
