
This course introduces students to the fundamentals and applied aspects of freshwater aquaculture. It encompasses the classification and operation of freshwater culture systems, pond preparation techniques,fish seed transportation, aquatic weed identification and control, and the use of biofertilizers such as Azolla. Special focus is given to economically important species like carps, catfish, freshwater prawn and murrel, with detailed insights into their breeding, larval rearing, and grow-out technologies. The course also discusses the introduction of exotic fish species and their ecological implications. By integrating traditional practices with modern technologies, students are equipped to implement sustainable and productive freshwater aquaculture systems.
