The course provides a comprehensive understanding of forest policy, its formulation, evolution and implementation in India.

·         It examines the National Forest Policies of 1894, 1952 and 1988 and their comparative basis, effects and implementation constraints.

·         It introduces the National Forestry Action Programme and State Forestry Action Programmes, including their formulation and implementation constraints.

·         It covers the legal framework governing forests, including CrPC, CPC, IPC and the Indian Evidence Act as applied to forestry matters.

·         It provides a detailed study of the Indian Forest Act, 1927, including forest offences, powers of forest officers, reserved/protected forests and forest produce.

·         It examines major forest and environmental legislation including the Forest (Conservation) Act, Biological Diversity Act, Forest Rights Act and Environment (Protection) Act.

·         It concludes with other major forest laws of national/international significance and the role, jurisdiction and powers of the National Green Tribunal.
